BACOLOD CITY–In line with the Alert Level 2 category of Negros Occidental, the Capitol-operated Mambukal Resort and Wildlife Sanctuary in Brgy.  Minoyan, Murcia, softly opened today, December 1, with an announcement by Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson of plans to put up additional facilities there, including high-end rooms and villas.

According to Lacson, the reopening of the province’s pride and symbol of tourism in the “new normal” means the fun and excitement of welcoming domestic and foreign tourists would be tempered by strict adherence to health protocols, including the wearing of masks and observance of social distancing.

The governor also bared plans of upgrading Mambukal and reconstructing the dining area by the river as recent flooding had washed away the original structure.

For now, despite the demolition of the Food Court area to give way to new structures, guests can already enjoy the other banquet space built with funding from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA). They have to bring their own food, though, as the kitchen won’t be ready until sometime next year.

Entrance to the resort is free, added Lacson, so visitors need only pay for the use of the facilities.

“But in order for us to keep the number of guests at a maximum 70 percent of Mambukal’s capacity, guests need to book first at the resort’s administrative office at the Capitol Lagoon,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, provincial administrator, said disinfection will be conducted from Thursday to Friday this week, so Mambukal will be closed to the general public. This weekend, on the other hand, will see it open but only exclusively to Capitol employees.

The resort will officially start receiving visitors and tourists on December 7. (Eugene Y. Adiong/iNews-Bacolod/Negros Bureau)
