ILOILO CITY–The author of the Iloilo City ordinance on the use of face shields outdoors is proposing to introduce amendments to the said regulation, including making it mandatory only when the city is under Alert Level 4 or 5 or when inside medical facilities like hospitals or clinics.
Presently and until the end of November, Iloilo City is under Alert Level 2.
According to Iloilo City councilor Ely Estante, now that active COVID-19 cases in the city have considerably gone down along with the weekly number of new cases, the use of face shields should also be relaxed.
He said that once these amendments are approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, the wearing of face shields and eye protectors will become voluntary for both residents and visitors alike when the city is anywhere between Alert Level 1 and 3.
“This means business establishments cannot insist that people wear them prior to entering or when inside,” he explained.
Still, appropriate penalties or sanctions will await those caught violating the said edict when inside medical facilities or when the city is under Alert Level 4 or 5.
Estante said he expects to present these proposed revisions to the city legislature during the SP session on December 2. (N. Glenn Aragon/iNews)
