COVID-positive patients in WV climb to 2,043

Positive cases of the dreaded coronavirus disease (COVID-19) continue to climb unabated in the region as another 97 were added to the total yesterday, effectively breaching the 2,000 mark with 2,043 total active cases in the whole of Western Visayas.

Of the said new patients, 31 are from Iloilo City while close behind are the provinces of Negros Occidental with 28 and Iloilo with 18. Bacolod City has 15 new patients while the provinces of Capiz, Aklan and Guimaras have 3, 1 and 1, respectively.

As for category, 93 of the 97 were considered local, or locally-contracted, while the rest are authorized person outside residence, 2; locally-stranded individual, 1; and returning overseas Filipino, 1.

Total recoveries yesterday accounted to 23 persons, bringing to 1,553 the number of recoveries in the region. Of the said number of recent recoveries, 17 are from Iloilo province, 5 from Capiz and 1 from Aklan.

Sadly, another Covid-19 patient from Capiz died yesterday, with the total number of fatalities region-wide now at 55.

It has to be noted that in the case classification of active cases, asymptomatic patients, or those not exhibiting any symptoms, are down to just 83.60% from as high as 90%+ in the early days of the pandemic.

Those with influenza-like illness, for its part, are now up to 12.73% while those exhibiting severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) is slightly up at 3.67%.

Overall, Iloilo City still tops the regional count with 604 active local cases plus 27 ROF/LSI/APOR for a total of 631. Negros Occidental is close behind with 577 total active cases while Bacolod City is running third with 491 cases.

Iloilo Province, meanwhile, is next with a total of 275 active cases, followed by the provinces of Guimaras (40), Capiz (24), Antique (16) and Aklan (9). (N. Glenn Aragon/INews)
