ILOILO–The province of Iloilo is not just on top of the list of eight provinces and highly-urbanized cities (HUCs) in Western Visayas with the highest number of active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) at present with 3,739, it is also the location of 28 cases of “variants of concern” or “variants of interest” based on the figures released by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) yesterday.
The majority of the 28 cases—16 to be exact—were infected with the highly infective Delta variant, while the Alpha and Beta variants each have three cases. In addition, six patients carry the P.3 variant or the Theta variant of the virus. The first three were labeled as “variants of concern” by the World Health Organization while the last is a “variant of interest”.
Of the 16 cases infected with the Delta variant, four are in the municipality of Oton, with two cases from Poblacion-West and one each from barangays Abilay Norte and Pulo Maestra Vita. Coming in at second with three cases is the town of Sta. Barbara, with two patients from Brgy. Balabag and another one from Brgy. Duyan-duyan. The municipalities of Zarraga and Dingle, meanwhile, had two cases each from Brgy. Jalaud Norte and San Jose, respectively.
Janiuay had two cases, one each from barangays Golgota and Jibolo, while Guimbal, Alimodian, and San Miguel completes the list with one case each in barangays Bongol San Vicente, Tarug, and San Jose, in that order.
