IN NEGROS OCCIDENTAL Power restoration in typhoon-hit areas hampered by refusal of landowners to allow repairs

BACOLOD CITY–The restoration of power in southern Negros Occidental is being hampered by landowners refusing entry to repair teams, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz said.

Diaz said this is rampant in Ilog due to pending disputes over rights of way.

Diaz appealed to landowners not to hold hostage the welfare of the people in southern Negros Occidental.

To alleviate the need for power in the 6th district of the province, the provincial government has sent 18 generator sets for the charging of basic survival equipment such as cellular phones and flashlights of local disaster teams.

Generator sets from hospitals and evacuation centers from other areas that can be spared will also be sent to southern Negros.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has restored power to northern Negros but electric cooperatives are still repairing their distribution lines, Diaz said. (Eugene Y. Adiong/iNews-Bacolod/Negros Bureau)
