Metro Bacolod logs 2 more Delta variant cases

BACOLOD CITY–Two more residents of Bacolod City—both from Brgy. Mansilingan but different households—have been added to the list of Delta variant-infected patients in the metropolis.

This brings the number of confirmed Delta variant cases in Bacolod to four. The first two cases were from Brgy. Banago and Brgy. Sum-Ag.

According to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the new detections involved a three-year-old boy and a 63-year-old woman, whose swab specimens were sent to the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC) in July.

Both are now released from isolation.

It was learned that the toddler underwent swab testing on July 15 after his father, a security guard, tested positive for the coronavirus.

The 63-year-old woman, on the other hand, was likely infected by another COVID-19 patient in Bacolod, with whom she had close contact.

She had earlier completed the full Sinovac dosage and exhibited no symptoms for the duration of her infection.

Now, while contact tracing is ongoing, a surgical lockdown of the patients’ respective residential areas has been ordered.

Aside from the Delta variant cases, Bacolod City also recorded five Theta variant cases.

These variant-confirmed cases were detected among a total of 166 samples the Department of Health-Western Visayas sent to the UP-PGC last month. (Eugene Y. Adiong/iNEWS-Bacolod/Negros Bureau)
