BACOLOD CITY–With the entry of ‘Tropical Storm Auring’ into the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson issued a “heightened alert” status for the entire province.
Dr. Zephard Caelian, head of the Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD), said the typhoon may hit the central part of the province if it does not change course and is expected to cross the province either on Sunday, February 21, 2021, or Monday.
Lacson reminded Negrenses to be alert and prepared to follow instructions, particularly since at this point, he said, the typhoon may still go up or down.
“If there is a need for preemptive evacuation, then let’s follow that,” he said, adding, “But let’s pray it changes course.”
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that “Auring” had entered (the) PAR Thursday morning.
At 3:00 AM today, the center of TS Auring was estimated, based on all available data, at 715 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (6.8°N, 132.6°E) with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h. It is said to be moving westward slowly.
Auring is the first typhoon to enter (the) PAR this year./(Eugene Y. Adiong/iNews-Bacolod/Negros Bureau)
