After just a day of new cases of COVID-19 going down below the 200-mark at 186 cases, raising hopes that the infection rate of the virus may now be on the downswing as everyone is hoping for, the region once again had to deal with hundreds of new cases as the figures here in Western Visayas got an additional 481 cases the last two days.
According to the Regional Case Bulletin No. 172 released by the Center for Mental Health here in Western Visayas, another 265 cases were added to the total number yesterday, bringing to 3,566 the active cases and to 8,220 the total cumulative number of confirmed cases in the region.
Of the said number, 252 cases are classified as local (locally transmitted), while 7 are returning overseas Filipinos and 6 are locally-stranded individuals.
Classifying the new cases further by province or highly-urbanized city, 115 of them are from Iloilo City, 64 are from Negros Occidental, 50 are from Bacolod City and 24 are from Iloilo Province.
Also having new patients are Capiz and Guimaras provinces with 9 and 3, respectively.
Meanwhile, the region reported 121 recoveries yesterday, bringing to 4,528 the total recoveries from the virus.
Of the said figures, 86 of the recoveries are from hardest-hit Bacolod City and 18 are from Iloilo City, while the provinces of Iloilo, Capiz and Antique have 9, 7 and 1 recovered patients, respectively.
Unfortunately, two patients died from the virus yesterday, pushing the number of fatalities to 126 deaths.
A patient each from Iloilo City and Negros Occidental were the latest casualties of the deadly virus.
With the recent additions, Bacolod City still leads the COVID-19 count in the region with 1,528 total active cases, followed by Negros Occidental with 1,125, Iloilo City with 555 and Iloilo Province with 216. Rounding out the list with their corresponding number of active cases are the provinces of Capiz, Aklan, Guimaras and Antique with 106, 22, 9 and 5, in that order. (N. Glenn Aragon/INews)
