KALIBO, Aklan–There is no shortage of political heavyweights in Aklan given the strength and performance of Tibyog Akean for decades.
With barely seven months to go till next year’s elections, the ruling political group in the province of Aklan has finally released its lineup for Aklan Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) candidates, effectively flexing its political muscle again.
In the Eastern District, which covers Libacao, Madalag, Banga, Balete, Altavas, Batan, New Washington, and the capital town of Kalibo, the candidates are incumbent board member Nemesio Neron, three-term Kalibo councilors Mark Ace Bautista and Mark Quimpo, former Balete councilor Apolinar Cleope, and incumbent Banga councilor Teddy Tupas.
Meanwhile, three-term Ibajay vice mayor Plaridel Solidum, former Malay councilor Jupiter Aelred Gallenero, former Nabas mayor Romeo Dalisay, former Numancia councilor Bayani Cordova, and incumbent SP member Jay Tejada will be hot on the campaign trail in the Western District.
The towns of Buruanga, Malay, Nabas, Ibajay, Tangalan, Numancia, Makato, Malinao, and Lezo comprise the Western District.
Aklan Vice Governor Reynaldo Quimpo is also seeking reelection as the regular presiding officer of the legislative branch of the provincial government of Aklan.
In 2019, eight of the 10 candidates of Tibyog Akean captured seats in Aklan SP, continuing its winning streak after the majority of its mayoral and vice mayoral bets in 17 towns knocked off their primary challengers in the 2016 and 2019 elections.
