ILOILO—Dumangas mayor Ronaldo “Onal” Golez has agreed to slide down and seek the town’s vice-mayoral position to give way to incumbent Iloilo 4th district Rep. Braeden John Biron’s mayoral bid as former congressman Ferjenel Biron once again tries to reclaim his position as representative of the 4th district in Congress, which he last held from 2016 to 2019.
Golez and the younger Biron filed their respective Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) this morning at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) office in the said town under the banner of the Nacionalista Party (NP).
Also present during the COC filing was the elder Biron, who will pursue a fifth term in the House of Representatives.
Golez said he decided not to seek his present post despite still being eligible for a third and final term after a conversation with the elder Biron regarding his future political plans.
The outgoing mayor believes that the future of the municipality will be brighter with the incumbent congressman leading its march in the next couple of years.
“Mas importante para sa akon ang buas-damlag kag kaayuhan sang banwa sangsa personal nga handum ukon ambisyon; amu na ang rason nga nagapa-iway ako [The future and betterment of the municipality is more important to me than personal aspirations or ambition],” Golez cited as reason for his decision to seek the second highest position in the town instead of gunning for re-election.
In addition, no one from their political group will be dropped, and they will all continue to serve their constituents in Dumangas, albeit in different capacities. (N. Glenn Aragon/iNEWS)
